SECURAM EOS Fingerprint Smart Lock – Better than SECURAM Touch?

Switching to a smart lock was among my best decisions recently as it truly makes my life easier. I tested the SECURAM Touch and quite impressed with its consistent performance. The same company introduced the new SECURAM EOS in late 2021 and I have another chance to test their newest smart lock. How the two products compare to each other, let’s find out in the review.

Features & Performance

The SECURAM EOS has almost the same installation process as the Touch. You can follow the step-by-step video instructions inside the SECURAM Guard app to install the lock. Basically, you will just need to install the deadbolt to the door, the touchpad on the outside of the door, then screw it to a mounting plate inside, and finally attach the interior assembly. Once completing the setup, you can pair it with your phone and connecting the lock to your Wi-Fi network. I had an issue during this step and had to contact support to resolve it. The solution was to factory reset the lock before setting it up with the app.

The app offers pretty much the same functions as seen with the SECURAM Touch. The biggest difference here is that I can connect it to the Internet without using an extra hub. The connectivity is protected by AES 128-bit encryption and an additional unique one-time code encryption algorithm. By connecting it to the Internet, users will be able to control the lock remotely. Besides, I can add the lock to my smart home and control it with my voice; It is compatible with both Google Home and Amazon Alexa.

The EOS is set to be an entry-level product with premier-level security and features. I can unlock the door using my finger, phone, key, code, or voice assistant. My favorite unlocking option is still the fingerprint scanner. This works consistently and I finally don’t need to carry a mechanical key with me every time going out. Unlocking with my finger is much easier and faster. You can also set it up so that the door is locked automatically when you close it.

Another nice feature of the EOS is its design. Both the touchpad and interior part have much more streamlined design now. They no longer look bulky and ugly as seen on the SECURAM Touch. The lock also uses the more popular AA batteries so you can easily replace them later; Average users will need to change batteries every 5-6 months. You don’t have to worry much about lockout because you can always unlock with your key. Even when you forget the key and batteries are dead, you can use a 9V battery to provide emergency power.

The SECURAM EOS has the retail price of $269 but at this time you can buy it for just around $150. It is even cheaper than the SECURAM Touch but I’m not sure how long the price will last. Both the EOS and Touch have great performance and if you don’t care much about Wi-Fi connection, you can just buy the cheaper one.
