If you are traveling on a business trip and still need access to a printer, obviously you can’t bring a bulky printer with you or use public ones at your hotels, especially when you have to print confidential documents. You will need to get yourself a portable printer and fortunately, there are more options at affordable prices out there. In this post, we’re checking out the HPRT MT800 2.0 Thermal Transfer Portable Printer.
Features & Performance
The HPRT MT800 2.0 has a very compact and lightweight design. If you are traveling, you can easily put it in your bag, backpack, or carry-on suitcase. It weighs less than 3 lbs and I really appreciate that it comes with a hard carrying case, a charging cable, and an extra thermal ribbon.
Features
- Ultra Compactness and portability- The size of HPRT portable travel printer is about 2 times of an iPhone to fit in a laptop briefcase, backpack, or luggage; Especially good for emergency printing on the go or business traveling; Print anytime and anywhere. (Note: MT800 is a Black-and-White printer that feeds one page at a time due to the nature of being a portable printer, Not a SCANNER or COLOR Printer)
- Decent printout -The print quality is decent with a strong black and waterproof text legibly in PDF or Word files by utilizing thermal transfer No-ink technology. No ink-clogged; No Toner leaks; Besides, Highly recommend buying HPRT GLOSSY PAPER as the more glossy the paper surface is, the more clear the printing quality is. (Note: AirPrint isn t supported on the printer currently)
- High compatibility- Not only does HPRT MT800 portable printer support IOS and Android mobile phone by Bluetooth connection, but also be compatible with MAC and Windows, Linux computer, laptop, and also works with iPad. Except for CHROMEBOOK.( Note: Only Bluetooth isn t supported on MAC currently, USB connection is preferred)

( Instruction video provided also in Customer questions & answers or HiPrint)
The printer already comes pre-installed with a ribbon inside, so you can start printing immediately. Each ribbon can print up to 45 pages and you can buy a set of 2 ribbons for just over $20. Unlike thermal printers that I used to print shipping labels, the HPRT can print on glossy papers. They recommend using their own glossy paper for the best printing quality, you can buy a 50-sheet ream for $10. If you add the cost of paper and ribbon, each print would cost over $0.40. This is obviously more expensive than traditional printers or public services, however, you will get the convenience of printing from your hotel room and of course, you can be confident that your documents are safe.
It is quite easy to set up the printer. You can set it up with your smartphone or connect it to your laptop. It took me just a few minutes to start printing the first page. The printing speed can’t be compared with inkjet printers and you will need to insert each page manually. It can print letter papers in black and white color only. It has a built-in 2,000mAh battery and you can print up to 70 pages in one charge.
The printing quality is fairly good, especially when you use it to print simple content with text only. Overall, I think this is a good portable printer. Although its price is expensive and you will have to buy some supplies, it is suitable for business travelers who don’t want to use public printers with security risks.
